From Peeling Paint to Flawless Finish: A Loughton Bathroom Makeover

We recently completed a bathroom renovation for a homeowner in Loughton where the focus was on repairing significant water damage and preventing it from coming back. Bathrooms are naturally high humidity environments, and this particular room had suffered over the years. The walls were showing visible signs of distress, with peeling paint and uneven blemishes caused by moisture getting into the substrate. We knew that simply painting over these issues would only be a short term fix, so we approached this as a full restoration job.

The preparation phase was extensive. We started by cutting out and repairing the damaged areas, ensuring that all cracks and surface imperfections were carefully filled and levelled. Once the repairs were set, we used the Mirka dustless sanding system to strip back the old layers and blend the filled areas seamlessly with the rest of the wall. This system allows us to get the surfaces glass-smooth without filling the client’s house with dust, keeping the workspace incredibly clean.

To ensure the filling and sanding work was flawless, we used advanced inspection lighting throughout the process. Standard room lights often hide minor defects, but by using high intensity lighting, we were able to see and rectify even the smallest imperfections before opening a tin of paint. For the finish, we applied Zinsser Perma White. We chose this specific product because it is the industry leader for bathrooms; it is formulated to be mould and mildew proof, creating a tough, washable barrier that seals the walls against dampness. The result is a bright, consistent finish where the previous cracks and damage are completely invisible.
